Under The Cloak series: The Cloak Of Nazili — Historical & Esoteric Foundations pt 2

Codified from the Foscari Journals, the Dee-Kelly Correspondence, and the Encroachment Archives.

I. FOUNDING ERA (16th–17th Century)

Cosimo Foscari — Founder, Vintner, Occultist, Explorer

The Cloak traces its formal beginnings to the late 1500s, when Cosimo Foscari, an Italian vintner turned world-traveling natural philosopher, encountered a series of anomalous events that brought him into contact with the Shining One.

Foscari’s life before the Cloak was marked by a blend of Renaissance curiosity and occult scholarship. His friendships with John Dee and Edward Kelly placed him at the heart of Europe’s alchemical and angelological circles. Surviving fragments from Dee’s diaries suggest Foscari participated in several Enochian workings, and later co-authored the earliest codices of the Cloak’s doctrine.

The Naming Controversy: What is “Nazili”?

Scholars of the Cloak still argue over the origin of the order’s name. Three primary theories persist, each partially supported by Foscari’s hidden journals:

  1. The Anatolian Theory
    • Foscari first discovered an incarnation of the Shining One in the Anatolian region near Nazilli, after hearing rumors of a brilliant but unstable foreigner accused of a murder in Pazarköy.
    • This geographic connection is the most literal.
  2. The Forbidden Woman Theory
    • Some believe “Nazili” was the name of a woman the Shining One loved, whose death—accidental or otherwise—forced him into hiding.
    • Foscari’s writings imply a tragedy involving a woman whose memory “split him across lifetimes.”
  3. The Enochian Theory
    • Dee identified the syllables NAZ + ZIL + ILI within the Enochian corpus.
    • Translated loosely, they mean “The First Pillars of Heaven,” reminiscent of Boaz and Jachin, the Masonic gateposts of initiation.
    • This symbolism establishes “Nazili” as a name of passage, awakening, and perilous ascent.

Foscari’s recovered journals insist that all three theories are true simultaneously, fitting the Cloak’s belief that reality exists in overlapping layers.

II. THE CLOCK OF THE FOUR WINDS AND THE FOSCARI JOURNALS

The earliest and most sacred texts of the Cloak were hidden in the hollow body of a massive grandfather-style clock, discovered centuries later in perfect preservation despite fires, floods, thefts, and wars.

The Cloak teaches that the clock was supernaturally protected because:

  • The Shining One had touched it.
  • The clock existed partially “between realities.”
  • Its materials had been subtly altered by the energy of the Shining One’s “On” state.

Within it, Foscari documented:

  • his first meeting with the Shining One,
  • the ritual encounter orchestrated through a seer stone,
  • early descriptions of the cave,
  • and Dee’s decoding of the name “Nazili.”

These texts form the backbone of the Proto-Nazilic Codex.

III. THE CAVE OF THE SHINING ONE

A Hidden Sanctuary in the Anatolian Outlands

According to Foscari, the Shining One maintained a secret cave system for millennia, an emotional and spiritual sanctuary where he stored artifacts from countless incarnations.

The cave contains:

  • Simulacra of former selves and companions, turned to stone
  • Magical relics, including:
    • an Oryx Horn that calls hail,
    • the Mace of Shiva,
    • the Bones of the Soothsayer,
    • and dozens of unnamed artifacts implying forgotten epochs
  • Personal relics carried across lifetimes
  • Stone versions of the Shining One himself—over 120 statues created consecutively during a dark, depressive era

The Dark Stone Period

This period is one of the most mysterious in Nazilic scholarship. Explanations include:

  1. The Shining One tried to trap himself in stone to break the cycle.
  2. He attempted to force himself into the “On” state through ritual death.
  3. He was consumed by despair after witnessing centuries of suffering.
  4. He performed a ritual of erasure, hoping to un-write himself from the timeline.

The cave is therefore seen as both:

  • a mausoleum of identities,
  • and a library of incarnations.

IV. THE KEY OF NAZILI

The Symbol of the Cloak

The Cloak’s symbol—described as resembling a helmeted astronaut, a cassette tape, and a tuning fork—represents:

  • the Key of Nazili,
  • a literal magical device used by the Shining One to seal and unseal the cave,
  • the vibrational frequency at which the cave becomes visible across layers of reality.

The Key symbolizes:

  • transition,
  • initiation,
  • unlocking hidden memory,
  • bridging the layers of existence,
  • and the Shining One’s forbidden lineage.

To modern members, the symbol is simply called The Key.

V. RISE OF THE ENCROACHMENTS (20th–21st Century)

From Secret Order to Mainstream Mystical Movement

In the late 20th century, membership in the Cloak exploded to over one million adherents, propelled by:

  • charismatic urban mystics,
  • leaked texts from the Clock,
  • new-age spiritual hunger,
  • and a growing sense that humanity was approaching a “Dark Twins” downturn.

Encroachments

The Cloak’s communal living centers are called Encroachments, named for their stated purpose:

“To encroach upon the false, dying reality with the true Nazilic Layer beneath.”

Encroachments are funded by:

  • wealthy anonymous benefactors
  • secret donors claiming ancestry from near-Shining-One encounters
  • companies with hidden Cloak influence

Members believe:

  • reality is stratified,
  • most humans live in a degraded surface layer,

and the Cloak’s mission is to pierce the veil and awaken humanity to its impending dissolution.

VI. REALITY LAYERS & THE VEIL

According to Nazilic metaphysics:

  • Reality is multi-layered like an onion or a palimpsest.
  • The Shining One moves between layers depending on its state.
  • Human consciousness is trapped in the shallowest layer.
  • Creativity (art, myth, dream, ritual) rips small holes in the veil.
  • The Key itself is said to “tune” consciousness to deeper layers.

Cloak members train their minds to perceive:

  • “Nazilic Resonances” between events and artworks
  • faint echoes of past cycles
  • signs of the Shining One’s proximity

The ultimate goal is to break the Cycle and free the Shining One—and humanity—from recurrence.
